Today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday.

Everyone loves a person that can make them laugh, and I love a tagline that does the same. Some really good ads I found, that really didn't have anything to do with insane graphics or ingenious illustrations were ones that had a witty, humorous tagline. The ad was for J.D Hoyt’s Steakhouse and all it consisted of was a very clever tagline that was also funny. If an ad can make me laugh then I immediately like it. So a good tagline can do wonders for an ad or a terrible one can throw it off completely. I think with advertisements humor will always work but there is also a limit to how far you can take comedy before it becomes offensive. They are things to think about when working on my next project on promoting a social issue for my advertising art direction class. I also posted some taglines I found courtesy of davar.net, some of which are pretty funny. Read through them when your bored.

  2. I love the J.D. Hoyt's ads. I totally agree that if an ad can make me laugh then I instantly feel a connection. The ad is memorable, even if you don't know the product being advertised. Even though some vegetarians and vegans might be upset by it, it's very difficult to poke fun at something without offending a group of people. I think the trick is to present the information in a way that is creative, humorous, and professional, which these ads do.

  3. I thought these were quite good. The ability to write is such an integral part of design and saying something witty in a short concise manner is a good skill to have.

  4. I agree that the taglines are good because it works with the type of restaurant it is, a steakhouse, which has its own audience. My favorite is "Mary had a little lamb" because its been given a different meaning from how we usually associate it.

  5. Those ads are so clever because its pro meat versus vegetarians. I've never seen anything like that. I like the "we serve vegetarians". lol thats so wrong on too many levels.
